The student shall be provided the opportunity to study the anatomy and physiology of animals including the various systems of the body. The student shall study the causative agents and risk factors of infection diseases of animals. This shall include viruses, bacteria, and parasites in the digestive system. In addition the student shall study the effects of infectious diseases of the respiratory and reproductive systems caused by viruses, bacteria and parasites. Students will learn about infectious diseases of the integumentary system caused by viruses, bacteria, parasites and fungi. Included is the study of the cardiovascular and lymphatic systems, the musculoskeletal and nervous systems. The student will study the infectious diseases of the special senses and generalized condition of animals.
The student will also study the nutritional problems and diseases related to deficiencies or imbalances of water, minerals, vitamins, proteins, carbohydrates, and fats in animal’s diets. Student study the chemicals that animals encounter most often, signs of chemical poisoning, and steps to prevent chemical poisoning. They will learn about common insecticides, and the proper use of insecticides, the care of animals poisoned by insecticides and sources of assistance when poisoning occurs. Also included in this study are the effects of poisonous plant and the dysfunctions related to deficiencies or imbalances of hormones and disorders related to physical injuries and stress.
